The city and urban district of Weiden i.d.OPf. is located in the county and Grafenwöhr is the home of one of the largest training areas in Europe with a size of approx. 230 square kilometers.

The fact that the majority of the county is located in the GA-subsidized area, offers investors a special locational advantage. The county’s economic centers are located in Eschenbach i.d.OPf., Grafenwöhr, Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab, Pressath, Weiherhammer, Windischeschenbach, and Vohenstrauß.
